Say It Ain't So, Joe

From CBS News:
(Joe) Paterno, who died at 85, was fired Nov. 9 by the Penn State trustees after he was criticized for not going to the police in 2002 when he was told that former assistant Jerry Sandusky had been seen molesting a boy in the showers at the football complex.

Paterno reported the allegations to university higher-ups, but it would be nearly a decade before Sandusky was arrested, and Paterno said he regretted having not done more. Pennsylvania's state police commissioner said the football coach may have met his legal duty but not his moral one.
That can't possibly be true. So if I have knowledge of a horrifying crime, I legally have to tell my boss but not the police?
"When I think back on Joe Paterno's legacy, the events of the last two months won't even cross my mind," (Stefen) Wisniewski said.
The last few months have been the aftermath of getting caught. The crime had been covered up for years- and you can bet there are at least fifteen young boys who will find those events crossing their minds for a long time to come.

  1. Very well put and I concur with your opinion on this. I do pray for the spiritual well-being of Paterno and I feel badly for his family who have to deal with the discussions of the scandal amidst their grief. I hope the young boys involved are able to heal as much as possible. :-(

  2. oooh... it really IS the bluest butterfly..!

Something this misguided is a mark that permanently changes everything you have done to enable and to allow this kind of behavior to continue. Once you are aware, every moral and social obligation would have you come clean and demand for protection of those who cannot protect yourself. He was selfish, vain, and his ego knew no bounds...

...he is not deserving of the exaltation that his name once merited... and that is just the way that it is...
